Argostoli the capital of Kefalonia situated on a peninsular is a busy working port with ferries, private yachts and freight ships coming and going all year round. If you need to buy something this is where you will find it amongst the cosmopolitan pedestrian shopping streets, supermarkets, speciality shops and all manner of other businesses. This is where all the main business is done throughout the year especially when the winter comes and the island almost goes into hibernation! Argostoli still lives on.

As with many waterfront towns there is a hive of activity all along it with tavernas restaurants, shops and an excellent fresh fruit and veg. market open everyday. A series of earthquakes in 1953 flattened Argostoli since when the town has been re- built, following the original street layout, creating a very charming capital. Whether exploring, shopping or having a cold beer by the harbours edge Argostoli is alive and vibrant.

There are several high quality hotels in Argostoli as well as studios and apartments.

This is good base for exploring the island, although Tour Company's tend to use the nearer resort of Lassi as a holiday base.

Argostoli has a lot to offer and is recommended because of the culture and the facilities it has. Glass bottom boat trips are available from the quayside as well as ferries to the mainland and Lixouri.

The Main square and close by is where some of the finest hotels and restaurants are located as well as a lot of the nightlife. Do explore the side streets just off the square where you'll find restaurants of note such as Mythos restaurant.
The Ionian Plaza hotel is where the cast and crew from Captain Corellis Mandolin stayed while filming. In the evening you can sample this area is a good place to sample the cuisine in the many restaurants.

The main nightclub in Argostoli is the Cinema music club near the square but there are also a lot of good music bars with dancing in and around the square such as Bad Boys, Rumours Traffic and My Way. Something for everyone here, don't worry if you're not staying here because most tour operators run excursions day and night there is a limited public bus service and Taxi's are plentiful.

Argostoli the Good
The quay, the fresh fruit and veg market, shopping lots of shops!, bars, cafes, and restaurants. All the main banks and cash points are here as well as exchange banks and a majority of the shops and restaurants take visa. There is a main hospital and, as the hub for the island if there’s something you need this is the place you are likely to find it. Here you will find the Main Bus station with trips to most places on the Island and off.

Argostoli the Bad
Can be a bit congested in the peak summer months and the traffic can at times be a bit heavy still nothing as bad as England! No beaches as such these are situated further along the coast in Lassi and small coves out at Finari.
