Originally built in 1780 as a family mansion for the Count Metaxas family, a family connected with many historical events in Greece. In 1845 a farmer’s rebellion forced the family to Corfu then when rebels burnt their summerhouse killing two of their employees they returned to Kefalonia and first rented out the mansion as a hotel. During the Italian occupation of WW2 the Hotel served as the officers club and then returned to use as a hotel until destroyed by earthquake and the subsequent fire in 1953.

In 1961 a small building with eight rooms and some shops underneath was erected on the same site where the magnificent mansion once stood. Professor Metaxas a direct descendant of the old Metaxas family decided with his wife to tear down the small building and build a new hotel Aenos with 40 comfortable rooms, lounges and restaurant. The new Aenos Hotel opened in 1975 with recent renovations to give you our guests the highest levels of comfort and technology. Hotel Aenos is once again a landmark of Argostoli situated in its original site on the south side of the main square.

The Aenos Hotel is a very popular meeting place for locals and tourists a like. It's position provides a good base for exploring the island with the ferry, bus station and car rentals close by. The reception area is cool and spacious with a comfortable lounge complemented with Antique furniture large sofas and wing back armchairs. The books and pictures adorning the walls around the lounge give an insight into old Kefalonia. For information about the history and places of interest you could do no better than ask the staff who have a wealth of information.

For early risers the very popular continental breakfast buffet is served in the front terrace dining area; everything from cold meats, yoghurts, fruit, various breads, fruit juices and cereals etc. all for 3.50 euros definitely a healthy way to start the day.
