we have has four visits to kefalonia, and it is our favourite place for a holiday. we have had a mixed experience of the accommodation offered by the tour operators though, and our last holiday, (sept. 03), was spent at the panorama appartments in lassi. Our appartment there was absolutely diabolical - filthy floors, broken and unpainted shutters, dirty cooker, cobwebs on the walls, glass doors which did'nt fit properly, grimed-on tide mark to bath/shower, filthy shower curtain.......need I go on? We booked this holiday with libra holidays, but never again!! Full marks, though, to golden sun/airglobe holidays. their accommodation in poros is very good and the reps are most helpful. we intend to visit kefalonia again this year and would recommend it to anyone, although there is not a lot to occupy small children, other than the beaches, and the hills might deter older/less mobile folk. Highlights for us have included assos beach, (perfect!), kato katelios, (unspoilt and peaceful), and sami. not as impressed by fiskado as we thought we would be; we found it expensive and rather pretentious. we love agia ephemia, but fear that it is attempting to emulate fiskado. we have found the greek island people to be generally friendly, helpful and generous.

Stayed at the Boulevard Pyllaros for 2 weeks in June and had a fantastic time - so much so we are going back at the end of September for a week. Like Jen's friends we went on the trial dive and this time we are going to do the full CMAS diving course. We hired a car and toured much of the island - Assos was perhaps our favourate place for snorkelling and lunch - feeding the fish is a wonderful thing to do. Loads of restaurents to eat at in Ag Ef in the evening, all with about the same pricing structure. But we did end up eating most nights at the Boulevard Pyllaros sat on the pier with the sea lapping gently round us. And Marios was a fantastic maitre de'.

We would like to go to Kefalonia next year, but don't know which resort/town to go to. We are a family of 5, 17yr and 15yr boys and 11 yr girl. We stayed in Alykanas, Zakynthos last year, which was nice though not as pretty as I think Kefalonia would be. Any suggestions?

I went to Kefalonia for a relaxing two weeks with two female friends. Whilst we saw the majority of the islands' tourist spots in the first week, we didn't get bored, and even revisited some of the beaches. Lots of stoney beaches but at least the sand doesn't get everywhere! We stayed in Svoronata which is right down in the South West of the Island, about a 15 minute drive from Lassi (taxis cost about 10 Euros.) We stayed in the Barbara studios which we were very happy with and which had lovely gardens, very well looked after. The owner (Barabara!) is very hospitable and the pool is nice and warm, if not a bit small. Svoronata is not very busy, but it's easy enough to get to Lassi or Argostoli for more entertainment/atmosphere. There are three sandy beaches in Svoronata; Avithos, Al Helis (our favourite), and Ammes. If you go to Ammes, watch for the planes (well, you can't actually miss them, they virtually land on you!), as it's right next to the airport. All three beaches are good though, the waters great, would definately recommend them.
